Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
Treatments are a little bit different with each practitioner. Conversely, each recipient has specific needs, unique goals, and a different intention for their Reiki treatments. Reiki is an intelligent energy, and while it will always only provide positive healing energy, the direction that it takes does depend in large part on the intentions of the recipient. My only suggestion to any prospective client is to clarify for themselves what it is they need, what type of healing, balance, or energy it is that they are seeking, and to keep this in mind as you go into your treatment. For maximizing the results of Reiki, the first four sessions are taken over a short time-period (i.e. 10 days to 2 weeks). By repeating Reiki treatments over a short span, the body can quickly clear toxins and disolve energy blockages. The rest of a Reiki treatment is often very much the same regardless of who the practitioner or client may be. The client lies fully clothed on a massage table. Often a practitioner may light candles, or arrange other soothing, peaceful elements, then place his/her hands on different positions. In any situations where a client may be uncomfortable with being touched at all, the Reiki session can still be performed effectively by using different hand positions above the body. With Reiki there is also the option for distance-healing for people who do not live in the same vicinity.

How Does Reiki Work?
Reiki flows through our beings, and assists the chakras to work towards or maintain a harmonious balance of our different energies. There are seven main Chakras in the body. These energetic centers are located along the nerve plexus connected to the inner spine, from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Each chakra is associated with a certain color, multiple specific functions, an aspect of consciousness, and other distinguishing characteristics. These energy centers are also associated with the gland system in our body, which regulates and distributes the flow of hormones, chemicals, and essential elements that are necessary for various unique purposes. The Chakras are responsible for disseminating energy out to the various systems and vital organs. When one or more of these centers are blocked from physical tension, negative thoughts, reactions to emotions or neglecting the spirit a persons may feel depleted and fall ill. Reiki Treatments unblock the energy necessary to promote healing through the Chakras.
